These Photos represent the efforts I have made to develop myself into a leader and collaborator. When living in Rincon; Puerto Rico I witnessed and participated in weekly “Art Walk” events. These events consisted of artists, artisans, musicians and community members all gathering in the town square every Thursday night. These events shaped my understanding of art in a community. Most importantly, I was inspired by the pervasive theme of inclusivity which welcomed all people. When I returned to New York to begin my post-secondary study, I was seeking the sense of community which I had so enjoyed in Puerto Rico. I partnered with my favorite local coffee shop to host an art walk event of my own. Over time, the number of participants grew. When this event reached its peak, I had guest artists showing a wide variety of work ranging from jewelry to paintings. I welcomed various musical performers and I was able to connect with members of my local community while initiating conversation about art.
Although large social gatherings were put on hold shortly thereafter due to the events of 2020, I still meet people who recognize me as the organizer of the art walk. I am so proud of the fact that I was able to coordinate a series of events which solidified my public identity as an artist while simultaneously giving a platform to my peers and colleagues.
